My chat with Adam Sews at the Festival of Quilts, a Pouch & a Shoutout.
We're still pinching ourselves. If you've been following us for a while, you'll know that the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham is the largest quilt show in Europe and a celebration of fabric, craft, and community. But this year's festival was extra special, because we got to meet the wonderful Adam Sews in person.
A Little Background
If you haven't come across Adam's YouTube channel yet, where have you been?! Adam Sews is one of the warmest, most genuine, and talented sewing creators out there. His videos are a joy — full of practical tips, honest reviews, and a real love of the craft that resonates deeply with us here at Big Bag Maker.
A little while back, we sent Adam one of our handmade Free-Motion quilted pouches — a small token of appreciation for the inspiration his content has given us. We honestly didn't expect much beyond a quiet smile if he happened to open it on camera. So when he gave us a shoutout in one of his videos, we were absolutely over the moon.
The Festival of Quilts
Back to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC Birmingham — the UK's largest quilting and textile event. We were there, soaking up the incredible displays, hunting for beautiful fabrics, and connecting with fellow makers. And then — there he was. Adam Sews, in the flesh!
We had the loveliest chat. It's always a little surreal meeting someone whose work you admire, but Adam was exactly as you'd expect from his videos: genuine and enthusiastic.
What It Means to Us
Moments like these are why we do what we do. Big Bag Maker started as a passion project — a way to honour beautiful Ankara and Kitenge fabrics by turning them into pieces that last, that travel, that tell a story. Getting recognition from someone like Adam, and then meeting him at an event, felt like a full-circle moment.
If you haven't already, go check out Adam Sews on YouTube and Adam on Instagram.
And if you're looking for a handmade bag or pouch that carries a little piece of that same love of craft — browse our handmade pouches here.
Thank you, Adam. And thank you to everyone who supports this little studio. You make it all worthwhile. 🧵✨
